About Me!

My name is Melissa Kindma and I am currently pursuing an English degree here, at Florida State University. I am a photographer and this fall I will be starting up a business (so be on the lookout)! In my free time I enjoy adventuring around Tallahassee, reading and making longboards with my Dad. As much as I love Tallahassee, Cape Coral will always be my home.

Tech Background:

So the reason I'm taking this class is because last semester I took a 4000 level digital design class that didn't actually count towards my major. It sucks, but I learned a lot! Besides that and a couple photography classes I took in high school, I don't have much experience using technology in an educational setting. That's why I'm here!

EME2040:

I'm excited to take this class because (1). it actually counts towards my major and (2). I could use a refresher on basic Windows software like Word and Excel. I'm hoping to use what I learn in here to become more organized in my personal life and more prepared in my professional life as a student. Not only that, but I was recently hired as a nanny. Maybe I could carry some of the information I learn in here to teach the children I watch over.

    I know Cape Coral very well- my sister-in-law lives there and my other in-laws are in Ft. Myers. Beautiful area-- it's such a shame what is happening with the red tide!

Independent Learning Project #2  Tech SandBox - Virtual Reality  So today I went to the Tech Sandbox for my second ILP.  I went to the Tech Show case for my first ILP so I was already pretty familiar with the type of equipment they had to offer, but I never had a change to use the Virtual Reality glasses. IN the Tech Sandbox I had it all to myself!  Before today, I had never used Virtual Reality. We really are living in the future - I was able write in thin air and teleport to an entirely different world. It looked so real!  I think it could be used as a cool, educational tool to train students in alternate realities. For example, imagine you're a marine biology course instructor. With various softwares, you could teach your students how to take samples and carry out experiments with no real risk or hazard. Tech Showcase

ILP 1: Tech Showcase Clear Touch Interactive For my first independent learning project I went to the Tech Showcase after class on September 18th. They had a lot of cool stuff to show off from the Tech Sandbox - there was a 3D printer, virtual reality, laser keyboards, and many more high-tech gadgets that I had a hard time wrapping my head around. We're really living in the future, you guys, but I'm a simple gal. My favorite tech gadget they had was the Clear Touch Interactive (pictured above). It's basically a big, touchscreen computer. They've shown one in action on Grey's Anatomy. You don't have to be Meredith Grey to use this thing though! I'm not a surgeon by any means. I'm much more right brain (as you can see lol). "The Flipped Classroom" I've only ever taken one online course and it didn't go so well. I was a junior in high school. The class was College Algebra. If you can't tell by now, I'm very much a people person. Not a computer person. All of our lessons and tests and activities were done online... and I failed miserably. Not because I'm bad at math, but because I just can't learn from a computer. The concept of a flipped classroom would have been really beneficial for me in that stressful season of my life when I all too often found myself staring at a blinking cursor in the middle of my screen.
