ELA Standards Second grade was my favorite. I don't know if was my awesome teacher- Mrs. Klunder, the field trip to the zoo, or the fact that I saved up every penny of my allowance to buy a tamagotchi that year... it may have been a combination of all of those things. Anyway, I digress. If I become a teacher one day, it would be a dream to teach second grade. That's why I chose the second grade ELA technology standards. With my existing knowledge, I feel confident in teaching text-based technological tools. So things like using the dictionary/thesaurus, creating online blogs, reading online textbooks, etc. I would like to learn more about drawing and creating graphics on a computer-based mediums.  CPALMS Educator Toolkit  One of the resources in the CPALM educator toolkit is called "Canopy Sloth Enclosures". The interactive activity asks students to help build a new sloth exhibit in the zoo based on specific data. This activity helps kids with both language a...

My Life and Microsoft Word  I'm a big fan of Microsoft Word. What can I say? I was pretty psyched when I found out that we could download it for free as students my freshman year. Suddenly, my life was changed (for the better). I've used it to write journal entrees, create graphs, type up assignments for school, and just about everything in between. The real question should be, "What haven't you used Word for?" I've seen my teachers use it too! They're pretty much pros. Almost everything I'm assigned in school is typed up on word. It's a good thing too because I know how to use it and after learning a whole lot more about Word in class last week, I guess you could say that I'm kind of a pro now too.  Copyright and Fair Use A long, long time ago, before I was an English major, I thought I was going to be a Communications major. I took A LOT of communication classes. One of them being Public Relations. In the class we learned a lot about...

Technology is All Around Us!  We live in an increasingly technological world. The integration of technology into our lives began with the personal compter (abbreviated PC). It wasn’t long before this ground-breaking technology drasticly reshaped the way we approach everyday tasks. With new gadgets and advances in technology being made every year, educators need to engage students with technology-based learning so that they can positively interact with the ever-changing digital world. ISTE Standards  The International Society for Technology in Education outlines seven standards for teachers- (1) learner (2) leader (3) citizen (4) collaborator (5) designer (6) facilitator (7) analyst. My favorite of these seven is the role of a teacher as a collaborator. I feel like this is something that I've mastered throughout the course of my academic career. When I'm in school setting, both as an instructor and as a student, I like to bounce ideas off of the people around me. We all...
